Facilitating Gait

An understanding of lower extremity biomechanics from an NDT perspective

Seminar Description:

This workshop is designed to provide an overview of lower extremity biomechanics, followed by practical application of facilitation techniques to assist patients in achieving functional transfers and ambulation.  The format will be initial lecture, integrated with discussion and lab practice.  The emphasis will be placed on practical applications that participants will be able to bring to their practice.

Seminar Objectives:

Upon completion of this workshop, the participant should be able to:

  • Apply basic NDT facilitation techniques.
  • Demonstrate the NDT concepts of facilitation and key points of control as it is related to gait.
  • Apply the ICF model when assessing a video patient
  • Identify functional outcomes
  • Use task analysis to organize and provide effective treatment strategies based on a video patient

An Introduction to Contemporary NDT

Seminar Description:

This workshop is designed provide information related to the evaluation and treatment of children with cerebral palsy and other neuromuscular disorders. It includes assessing a client according to the ICF model and utilizing task analysis to organize and provide effective treatment strategies. The format will be lecture, patient demonstrations, and lab opportunities.  The emphasis will be placed on practical applications that participants will be able to bring to their practice.

Seminar Objectives:

Upon completion of this workshop, the participant should be able to:

  • Apply basic NDT facilitation techniques.
  • Demonstrate the NDT concepts of facilitation and key points of control as it is related to.
  • Apply the ICF model when assessing a video patient
  • Identify the types of cerebral palsy and treatment recommendations.

Let’s Play Ball

Using movable surfaces during your treatment of children with neuromotor disorders, an NDT perspective.

Seminar Description:

This workshop is designed to provide lab opportunities that will focus on learning to use movable surfaces as effective therapy tools. It includes assessing a client according to the ICF model, writing functional outcomes, and utilizing task analysis to organize and provide effective treatment strategies. Many facilitation techniques using movable surfaces will be demonstrated and practiced.  This course will require active participation in labs, as a therapist and as a “client.” Please be aware of your own physical limitations. Loose, comfortable clothing, ideally shorts and tops, should be worn. Please bring a ball suitable for you sit on at approximately 90/90. The format will be initial lecture, integrated with discussion, and lab practice.  The emphasis will be placed on practical applications that participants will be able to bring to their practice.

Seminar Objectives:

Upon completion of this workshop, the participant should be able to:

  • Apply basic NDT facilitation techniques.
  • Demonstrate the NDT concepts of facilitation and key points of control as it is related to use with a movable surface
  • Apply the ICF model when assessing a video patient
  • Identify functional outcomes and use task analysis to organize and provide effective treatment strategies with a movable surface based on a video patient.

Upright Postural Control

A Contemporary Pediatric Neuro-Developmental Treatment Approach for Upright Postural Control

Seminar Description:

This workshop is designed provide information related to the evaluation and treatment of children with cerebral palsy and other neuromuscular disorders. Evidence from contemporary science and greater understanding of current theories in motor behavior are drawn upon to enhance clinical reasoning skills in Neuro-Developmental Treatment (NDT).  It includes assessing a client according to the ICF model and utilizing task analysis to organize and provide effective treatment strategies. The format will be lecture, patient demonstrations and lab opportunities.  The emphasis will be placed on treatment strategies related to upright postural control.  Participants will learn practical applications that they will be able to bring to their practice.

Seminar Objectives:

Upon completion of this workshop, the participant should be able to:

  • Apply basic NDT facilitation techniques.
  • Demonstrate the NDT concepts of facilitation and key points of control as it is related to postural control.
  • Apply the ICF model when assessing a video patient
  • Identify the types of cerebral palsy and treatment recommendations.
