Leslie Paparsenos provides physical therapy intervention for children living in and around Livingston, New Jersey.
Examples of common concerns that parents may have include:
- Premature babies (<36 weeks gestational age) or low birth weight babies (<1500g)
- Newborn babies having difficulty turning their heads
- Newborn babies not tolerating tummy time
- Babies having flat spots on the back or side of their heads, especially after 7 weeks old
- Babies who have difficulty with rolling, sitting, crawling and walking
- Toddlers with pigeon toes, bow legs, in-rolling ankles, knock knees.
- Children who have difficulties with coordination, balance, walking and running
- Frequent falls, poor balance and coordination
- Children and teenagers who have sports related injuries
- Children with poor posture or children who complain of frequent muscular pain
Some contributing factors to delayed or poor quality motor development are:
- Low muscle tone/strength/endurance
- Poor or under-developed coordination
- Poor or under-developed balance
- Poor or under-developed core/trunk stability
- Less than ideal body/joint mechanics or alignment
- Sensory challenges
- Injury – this can include injuries to the musculoskeletal system (i.e. sports injuries) or the neurological system (i.e. traumatic brain injury)
I aim to work closely with the family to set up a therapy program that can be incorporated into both the child's and family's daily routine. I will try wherever possible to arrange an appointment that fits in with child's routines and family commitments. Where also indicated, preschool & school based visits can also be arranged.
I will provide assessments and interventions to children through the lifespan. I can provide services:
- In your home
- In your child's preschool/school setting
- At a venue that is suitable for the child and family
TREATMENT
Treatment will be individualized for your child. A holistic approach to your child's therapy is important. I will make every effort to liaise with other health professionals and services involved with your child to maximize your child's potential.
Treatments may include:
- Neuro-Developmental Treatment
- Play-based therapy to facilitate the acquisition of motor skills and abilities
- Training in effective handling techniques to assist in your child's care
- Stretching and strengthening exercises to maintain and/or improve muscle function
- Craniosacral therapy, myofascial release, instrument assisted soft tissue mobilization, massage
- Gait education
- Orthotics/splinting/casting advice
- Equipment trials and advice
- Provision of home exercise programs
- Provision of school based therapy programs
- Training for carers/teacher aids
